Stripped Back to the Structure

Brief: "Create a 3-page fashion spread with a minimum of three style looks. Identify the magazine this story will appear in." In this photography and styling project, I was able to improve my photography skills by learning about lighting, film photography, the studio and its equipment. The inspiration behind my editorial was architecture. Through researching SS16 trends using WGSN I identified 'Underwear as Outerwear', with combinations of sheer fabrics, lace, bralettes, mesh and silk as a prominent trend of 2016. When looking at architecture as inspiration, I noticed the small details and similarities between the way buildings and lingerie are constructed. Corsets were structured using bone, working in the same way that structural pillars support a building. I was inspired by designers such as Givenchy, Alexander McQueen, Simone Rocha, Dries Van Noten and The Row. From looking at their catwalk looks for 'Underwear as Outerwear' I went to high street retailers to produce outfits that replicated these looks to create my final magazine spread. My final location for my editorial, `Stripped back to the Structure', was Somerset House.
